A Brief History of 4/20

The 4/20 holiday traces back to a group of high school students in San Rafael, California in 1971. Known as "the Waldos," they would meet at 4:20 PM after school to search for a legendary hidden cannabis crop rumored to be growing near Point Reyes. They never found the crop, but "4:20" became their shorthand for consumption, then spread to the Grateful Dead community, then to High Times magazine, and eventually to the rest of the world.
